Inspirations

When I exhibit my work at an art show I am always asked "How do you come up with your ideas?"  I thought I would share the inspiration for my new Family Tree Ornament.

My Mom created this wonderful cross stitch family tree when I was little for my Grandmother.  My Grandparents had 8 kids and MANY grand kids and LOTS of great grand kids.  This cross stitch was huge and so ornate, the initials all in little hearts with the dates of the weddings, the kids initials and birth dates, leaves and texture of the bark and all.  I remember it hanging in her living room for years and just looking at it as the grownups talked.  It isn't the one shown but something like this.

Fast forward to today....

I made a goal for myself to create at least 1 new design every week.  I am a night owl and work until 3 or 4 am most nights.  So I am working away, starting to get tired, and ready to head to bed.  In the back of my mind I have been trying to figure out a way to make a piece of jewelry for my mom, who really only like bracelets and rings, with all of her kids, grand kids, and great grand kids on it.  There is only 25 names to be included!  I mean how hard can that be right? lol  I had just made a new Mom necklace with just the initials and thinking how to make a bracelet with just initials.  Hmmm.

The family tree flashes through my mind, I grab a note pad and sketch it out (which I never do).  Out comes a sheet of metal, the shears, and the stamps.  One hour later - The Family Tree Ornament is made.  And I love the way it has turned out!

What has inspired you?  I would love to hear some comments on your inspirations!

Mother Knows Best

I know it has been awhile since my last post and I really have no excuses to offer except I'm just lazy sometimes.  I have the best of intentions but they don't always come to be.  LOL  Sometimes I have to wonder how the heck do I ever get enough jewelry made to sell!   All my life I never had much "stick to it", until I found books in the eighth grade.  Then I never went anywhere without one in my hand (even the bathroom!)  It was like an extension of my arm.  Since then I have read 1000's of books and still am very passionate about reading today.  I would read all the time even now if I could.

In my late twenties I did find that I enjoyed making jewelry and that I could "stick with it".  That is how I ended up where I am today, a fulltime artist.  I, unfortunately have some very bad habits that need to be broken!  One of them is that when I'm not selling I do not like to create.  Another being if it doesn't take off in a short time I don't pursue it.  Again, no stick to it!

I have the best role model in my life and that is my mother.  My mother does know best.  She is an artist and she is a working and creating machine.  From the time she gets up til the time she goes to bed she is working and producing.  I need to take a lesson!    It isn't the amount of work that is really what needs to be learned but the passion that she puts into each and everything she works on.  I have said to her that I am so lazy next to her, because I am not creating when I know I should be,etc.  But she tells me that it isn't that she is so driven to work but that she LOVES what she does.  It is who she is, an artist.

I am becoming an artist.  It is not always an instant manifestation, but for me it is a gradual awakening.  I am now developing into the artist that I want to be.  I know that I will never be as driven as my mother is, as that is just not me, but I know that as I grow older the desire is developing more and I will be who I am ment to be.

Make A Banner Using Power Point

You can see the banners I just designed at - http://www.firedupladies.etsy.com/ http://www.artrageousclay.etsy.com/   http://www.ejeanbogerfinearts.etsy.com/

I just saw that you could make a banner in Power Point. As I have never used power point before I searched through out the forum threads and took from several posts, so thought I would combine all my steps into one place.

1. Go to Design tab. Click on page setup (located in left hand corner).

2. Enter Width as 27 inches and Height as 3.55 inches. Press ok.

3. Right click (outside of text boxes). Choose format background. I chose to use solid fill. But if you go to picture you can load any type of background you have. Hint - If you go to the paint program under accessories, (and have a scanner) you can scan any type of scrapbook paper and save in jpeg. This works well as a great background which you can retrieve by choosing picture.

4. Go to the Insert Tab. Chose picture to put in your pictures. Download picture(s) and move to desired place.

5. Go to Home Tab. Click on text box. I typed my shop name, font size, and the went to font type. Your font will change to each one of the different fonts you highlight, so you can preview them. I then changed

the color of the font. Hint - I used font size 150 (by typing in the size) and used bold, even though I thought it was a little blurry. Once I uploaded the banner I found I needed it bold to show up (and it wasn't blurry).

6. I then added the tag line by clicking on the second text box. I changed the font type, font size (70), and the color.

7. Once satisfied, I saved the finished banner in PNG. You can also save in JPEG. Hint - I found that when I saved, it asked if I wanted to export the slide so I clicked every slide. This is the only way that I could get it to save right.

I then downloaded to Etsy and voila! My new banner. I hope that this helps!

If you have any other hints to add, I would appreciate it!

Happy Saturday!

I am finally getting to setup my work space in Florida. WooHoo! I am cleaning and organizing, 2 of the things I hate the most! My style off cleaning is throw it in a box and I will get to it later (Ya, right!)  I always put off cleaning until the VERY LAST MINUTE!  I  have good intensions to work 20 minutes a day and get it done but I just keep putting it off.

I haven’t been totally slacking in the last 3 weeks. I have been working on my Etsy shops www.artrageousclay.etsy.com and www.firedupladies.etsy.com. I finally have enough pieces in FiredUpLadies to have 2 pages! I have also been playing with my pictures so I would love to hear any comments and critiques regarding them.

My newest listing in www.firedupladies.etsy.com is this Reversible Necklace -

Woodland Forest Reversible Ceramic Pearl Necklace

And the matching earrings.

Sterling Silver Pearl Earrings

Thanks for taking the to read a little of my ramblings!  I really appreciate it!

I am a nut when it come to christmas. My house has no fewer than 10 Christmas Trees!  They all have a theme, Penguins, Cowboy, Wild Animals, Carton/Disney, Snowman, Angel, etc.   I love Christams and have found it hard to find jewelry that really made me say wow.  So I decided to design my own Holiday Jewelry Collection.   My newest member of the collection is this adorable Penguin.  He is a Reversible Pendant and has a snowflake on the otherside.

I think He is adorable!  What do you think?
